The Clintonville section of North Haven is a somewhat little known cool spot in Connecticut especially for being so far south in New Haven County. As I am writing this we are already about 5 degrees below surrounding weather stations in the area. My neighbor and fellow WxEdge contributor Nick DiGiovanni has been observing with his weather station set up at his house. His house is located at the top of a small hill which means cooler air does not settle as good as it does in valleys. Recently he decided to put a secondary weather sensor behind the woods which are near a brook in between our houses that is at lower elevation. After installing this weather station he observed temperatures about a 5 degree difference between the temperature at his house and the temperature in my yard. This temperature difference is most notable on clear calm nights where radiational cooling can take place must faster, allowing for cold air to sink and settle into valleys which my house is in somewhat. The temperatures are pretty even on nights with more active weather occurring as the atmosphere is more mixed and evening out the temperatures.
